The
Rise & Fall of a Machiavellian Teacher
Three
Approaches to the Trust Level System

The Trust Level
System at a Glance
-
The Trust Level System
(TLS) provides the fairness and consistency students expect when
the teacher is required to discipline poor behaviours, yet the system
accounts for differences in situations and students.
-
The system
considers a wide range of research from existing discipline theories,
management programs, and techniques, but remains simple to implement.
The accompanying Trust Level System manual
outlines a step-by-step approach to intervening in classroom misbehaviors,
consequence implementation, and behaviour tracking.
-
The system operates on
a hierarchical structure to help identify the responsibilities and
character traits of each Trust Level. The structure can also be
used to categorize the severity of certain behaviours.
-
Rewards
are unnecessary when using the Trust Level System because reaching
and maintaining the highest trust level is in itself a personal
reward. No extra incentives means no extra complications or competition
among students.
-
The system
benefits those who are concerned with student behaviour in the classroom,
namely the students, teachers, administration, parents, teachers-on-call
(TOCs) and student teachers.
